About our classes. When you sign up your child, we will start teaching him or her karate, the basics of karate (blocks, punches, kicks) and teach them kata.
What is kata? Kata are forms (like a foreign dance form) that were created by Okinawan masters of the past as a living encyclopedia of techniques. As your child learns these kata, they learn a great training method to help your little samurai learn karate and retain it.
Traditions. Karate and traditions go hand in hand. Thus your child will be taught some Japanese language, respect for the martial arts and all people. When you buy a gi (those white pajamas) for your child, they will learn to respect thieir uniform and belt (obi). WE teach karate – you and your child will appreciate learning karate.
Classes. We limit the size of our children’s classes to be sure we can provide a lot of individual attention to your child.
Instructor. Your child will be taught by a Grandmaster! Grandmaster Hausel, the highest ranking member of Shorin-Ryu Karate (Seiyo Kai) will by your instructor.
Soke (Grandmaster) Hausel with Shihan (master) Neal Adam.
What to Expect. When you & your child walk into our school, we will greet you as friends. As an introduction, we will teach your child about traditions of Okinawan karate - how to bow, when to bow, when to talk, how to address instructors. In a short time, you will find your child is concerned about being courteous. We will even teach them a little Japanese & train them in the basics of karate that will assist them in physical conditioning, self-confidence & building a foundation for self-defense as well as self-esteem.
Your child will learn the basics of karate. They will learn to kick, block, punch & kata (forms). Kumite (sparring) is not part of the children's class as this is a dangerous practice & not only can injure your child, it also teaches improper technique & aggression.
We ask parents to sit in the peanut gallery, observe, and not disturb children during practice. Being that our class is only 45 minutes, we ask parents to stay for the entire session. After a parent proves they can be part of our group, they may be asked to join the class for a nominal fee and train along with their child.
Karate training is about the whole person. We emphasize karate is never used against anyone except in self-defense. After traditional karate training, your kids will turn into 'tigers' as the gain self-confidence and self-esteem.
